The western Orobie track, rediscovered by the Italian Alpine Club (CAI), is one of the ancient routes which linked the mountains. Nowadays the trail is easily accessible, perfectly marked and it allows everyone to cross the
Brembana valley from mountain refuge to refuge in the Orobie Nature Reserve at an altitude of about 2.000m. Along the track you will probably find traces of the First World War trenches, mountain cabins and shelters for cattle made by the breeders, who are still producing excellent mountain cheeses.
Here and there the Alpine flora can offer gems of species exclusive to the Orobie, such as Viola comollia and Sanguisorba dodecandra, as you go on your way, you will come upon the local fauna, that is roes, chamois, steimbocks, marmots and golden eagles. We advise you to wear clothing suited to the excursion, to be in training and to take binoculars and a camera with you, in order to be ready to admire the wild nature of the Orobie hiking track. Both refuge owners’ hospitality together with their tasty dishes and the cattlemen’ s genuineness will be another unforgettable experience.
Enjoy the pleasures of the Orobie mountains!
